The Sampson Room was part of Josiah's bedchamber and is located on the second floor. It has a commanding view of the back lawn and would have overlooked much of Josiah's holdings. The iron queen-size bed is accompanied by an antique rocker, a writing desk, and an antique chest of drawers, and the room has a private bath. The room faces west to receive the light of the setting sun, offering picturesque views of the gazebo, garden, and wooded property beyond. |
Josiah Sampson was quite ahead of his time in some ways, and the Sampson Room is an excellent example, with Cape Cod's first indoor plumbing: a bathtub with a drain. Josiah enjoyed daily baths, which was an understandable rarity for his day, as he still required servants to heat the water and tote it up the stairs. This recently-renovated bathroom's thoroughly modern plumbing, including shower/tub, is much more convenient.
